Erik Thun Group Launches Fourth Lake Vänern Max Vessel, “Tidan”

The Erik Thun Group has launched Tidan, the fourth vessel in its Lake Vänern Max series, during a ceremony held at the Ferus Smit shipyard in the Netherlands. Named after the Swedish Tidan River, the vessel reflects the company’s ongoing efforts to integrate sustainability into its fleet operations.
The Lake Vänern Max series is designed with several environmental features aimed at improving efficiency and reducing emissions. Among them is the eBox energy management system, which helps optimize energy usage and lower CO₂ output. The ships also incorporate hybrid propulsion systems that combine battery technology with conventional fuel engines. This setup enables more efficient energy distribution, reduced emissions during peak loads, and quieter operations when docked—helping to limit both air and noise pollution in port areas.
Built in collaboration with Ferus Smit in the Netherlands, the vessel represents the company’s continued strategy of constructing ships within Europe. This approach not only supports regional industry but also mitigates some of the uncertainties posed by global supply chain disruptions.
