Duisport teams up with Lhyfe to build major electrolysis plant

The Port of Duisburg (Duisport) has teamed up with Lhyfe to look into the feasibility of building the first major electrolysis plant in the port.

The planned factory would have a capacity of up to 20 MW and could be built on a plot of land owned by Duisburger Hafen by mid-2025. If the project is implemented, up to eight tonnes of green hydrogen could be produced every day.

Duisport has signed up to use green hydrogen produced at the site for its internal logistics and the operation of the Duisburg Gateway Terminal (DGT).

In addition, Duisburger Verkehrs- und Versorgungsgesellschaft (DVV) and Wirtschaftsbetriebe Duisburg (WBD) have signed a declaration of intent to use the energy source for their hydrogen buses and hydrogen-powered refuse collection vehicles, respectively.
