Lemissoler Navigation has ordered up to eight methanol dual-fuel 65,000 dwt bulk carriers in China.
It signed a contract with China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding and China Shipbuilding Industry Trading for the construction of 4+4 Ultramaxes.
As informed, it is the first order of methanol dual-fuel 65,000 dwt bulkers in China.
The project marks the shipbuilder’s entry into the new shipbuilding segment, strengthening its position in green shipbuilding.
Designed by Shanghai Ship Research and Design Institute, the bulker has a total length of 199.9 meters, a beam of 32.26 meters, a depth of 19 meters, and is equipped with two 1,200 cbm methanol fuel tanks.
In December last year, classification society ABS issued approval in principle (AiP) to Lemissoler Navigation for its design of a methanol-fueled Ultramax bulk carrier, the first such methanol vessel for China’s shipbuilding industry.
The Lem65ePlus-SDARI Methanol design, which exceeds EEDI Phase 3 requirements, is said to represent an important step in Lemissoler’s goal to become net zero by 2045.
