Damen Shiprepair, part of the Netherlands-based Damen Shipyards Group, and Alfa Laval Benelux, a division of Swedish marine technology provider Alfa Laval, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to expand their cooperation in the field of maritime energy efficiency.
The partnership aims to incorporate sustainability improvements more systematically into ship maintenance and refit projects. By combining Damen’s experience in ship repair with Alfa Laval’s portfolio of energy-saving technologies, the two companies intend to support shipowners in implementing decarbonization upgrades as part of routine drydockings, without requiring additional vessel downtime.
“The integration of Alfa Laval’s solutions into our existing processes offers a practical route for shipowners to pursue sustainability goals,” said Michele Rivella, Sales Manager Sustainability at Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam. “This cooperation allows clients to take steps toward IMO and EU targets during scheduled maintenance.”
The agreement also covers joint customer engagements and shared events, building on the companies’ overlapping client base to streamline the delivery of efficiency upgrades.
“Sustainability is a key focus for us,” said Leo Peters, Manager Sustainability at Alfa Laval Benelux. “Our technologies are designed to support the industry’s transition to net-zero operations.”
David van Luijtelaar, Head of the Marine Division at Alfa Laval Benelux, added: “This partnership enables us to provide shipowners with solutions that address emission reduction and regulatory compliance, working through an established shipyard partner.”
