Busan New Port has inaugurated its first hydrogen charging station for cargo trucks, a significant advancement in the port’s shift towards eco-friendly energy. The Busan Port Authority (BPA), under the leadership of President Kang Jun-seok, collaborated with Changwon City and other partners to establish this facility within the New Port’s business office in Yongwon-dong, Jinhae-gu.
This strategic development aligns with the “Agreement on the Construction and Management/Operation of Hydrogen Charging Stations for Trucks in Jinhae New Port Area,” a joint effort that saw Changwon City overseeing the project and Changwon Industrial Promotion Agency executing the construction. The Busan Port Authority provided the necessary real estate for the charging station, while SK Energy Co., Ltd. and Netruck House are tasked with its operation.
The station, designed to compress and store up to 180 kg of hydrogen per hour, marks a critical step towards enhancing the logistics sector’s sustainability at one of South Korea’s busiest ports. Operations are set to commence in full scale from October, bolstering the region’s infrastructure for hydrogen-fueled vehicles.
President Kang Jun-seok emphasized the station’s role in promoting large-scale hydrogen mobility and indicated that BPA plans to further expand hydrogen energy initiatives to support South Korea’s ambition of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. This project not only supports environmental goals but also underscores Busan’s commitment to pioneering green energy solutions within the maritime and transportation industries.
