The Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt. Rekha Gupta, flagged off 100 new Delhi Electric Vehicle Interconnector (DEVi) buses from the Narela Terminal, reinforcing the city’s ongoing commitment to sustainable and clean urban transport. This rollout marks a major development in the capital’s transition towards an all-electric public transportation system.
Of the 100 newly inducted electric buses, 66 have been supplied by JBM Electric Vehicles, a leading manufacturer in the e-mobility sector. These buses will operate primarily from the Nangloi Depot, serving the western and northwestern areas of Delhi. The initiative is expected to improve last-mile connectivity while contributing to reduced emissions and a cleaner urban environment.
The DEVi program remains central to the city’s strategy for transforming public transit. By offering safe, reliable and environmentally conscious transport options, the initiative aims to enhance the commuting experience for Delhi residents and reduce the city’s carbon footprint.
JBM Electric Vehicles, which is headquartered in the Delhi National Capital Region, operates one of the world’s largest integrated electric bus manufacturing facilities outside of China. The plant has the capacity to produce up to 20 thousand electric buses annually, positioning the company as a significant contributor to India’s electric vehicle ecosystem.
The newly introduced buses are equipped with a range of advanced features aimed at improving safety, accessibility and operational efficiency. These include a real-time passenger information system for live tracking, CCTV surveillance for onboard security, stop request buttons, fire detection and alarm systems and vehicle health monitoring tools for proactive maintenance. Reserved seating for women has also been provided to ensure inclusive travel.
The ECOLIFE model used in the DEVi fleet is designed with a strong focus on the driver’s comfort and control. Its ergonomic dashboard layout meets global standards, helping to minimise distractions and optimise operational safety.
With this launch, Delhi strengthens its position as a leader in sustainable urban mobility, aligning with national goals for smart city development and climate resilience. The continued adoption of electric public transport solutions reflects the capital’s broader efforts to reduce emissions and build a cleaner, more efficient urban transit network.
