The Chinese shipyard Guangzhou Shipyard International under China State Shipbuilding Group Corp (CSSC) will construct five of the eleven 24,000-TEU LNG dual-fuel box ships that Taiwan’s Evergreen Marine Corp has ordered, with the remaining six being built by Hanwha Ocean Co. of South Korea.
The overall amount of the order to the South Korean business is between $1.6 billion and $1.8 billion, while the order to the Chinese company is between $1.3 billion and $1.5 billion. It is anticipated that deliveries will begin in 2028.
Evergreen signed a deal last year to purchase 18 2,400-TEU feeder ships that run on methanol as a dual fuel. A deal has been inked by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Engine & Machinery Division to supply 18 H22CDF-LM methanol dual-fuel HiMSEN engines for Evergreen’s ships, which are being constructed at Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding. In January 2025, Evergreen’s turnover was $1.3 billion, a 49% increase over February 2024.
