First railway hydrogen station operational in China

China’s first heavy-load refueling station for hydrogen-powered railways began commercial operation in Ordos, a prefecture-level city in north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

The station caters to heavy-duty hydrogen-powered shunting locomotives and catenary vehicles supported by hydrogen fuel cells and lithium-ion batteries. It is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 800 tonnes per year.
