HGK Shipping signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in early May with Hydrogenious LOHC Maritime and Hydrogenious LOHC Technologies to collaborate on developing a scalable solution to make hydrogen available as a source of energy on a wide scale.
The hydrogen-based technique is based on a liquid carrier LOHC (liquid organic hydrogen carrier). The two partners intend to build a demonstration vessel by 2028 and then put it into service; the ship will be propelled by a fuel cell powered by the hydrogen supplied by the LOHC.
As a result, the company stated, the demonstration has the potential to map the entire value-added chain, from producing the LOHC to using the drive technology and transporting goods, and even ensuring that potential customers can use the vessel.
