Tianjin Southwest choses two more LPG carrier dual-fuel retrofits

Tianjin Southwest Maritime has exercised the option to retrofit the main engines on board another two liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) vessels to dual-fuel operations at Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry (Guangdong). Last October, the operator reached a contract with MAN Energy Solutions’ after-sales division, MAN PrimeServ, for the dual-fuel conversions of its Gas Gemini and Gas

Log-In Logística partners with Nautilus Labs to reduce fuel emissions

Log-In Logistica Intermodal is partnering with Nautilus Labs for reductions in fuel consumption and carbon emissions, optimised operations, and successful digital adoption across the latter’s organisation. Nautilus’s solution was initially implemented on two container vessels of Log-In’s liner fleet that must adhere to strict ETAs. Both vessels leveraged Nautilus to maintain their ETAs, using just-in-time

Use of BMS at major ports welcomed by IBIA

Port authorities of Rotterdam, Antwerp and Zeebrugge have taken an important step toward improving transparency and reliability in the ARA bunker market by agreeing to mandate the use of a bunker measuring system (BMS) for bunker supply vessels. ITF calls for carbon pricing for shipping

The International Transport Forum (ITF), part of Paris-based OECD, has called for the swift implementation of carbon pricing for shipping to speed up the sector’s shift towards zero-emission ships. The price gap between conventional and zero-emission ship fuels hinders the adoption of known and sometimes available technological solutions, the ITF has argued in a new

Good time ahead predicted for LNG

The advisory division of leading class society DNV Maritime sees good times ahead for LNG dual-fuel vessels, even if today’s high gas prices support fuel-switching to VLSFO. More than 200 LNG-fueled ships have been ordered over the course of the year to date, including 17 in November alone, according to DNV Principal Consultant Martin Wold.

Halten Bulk to build more hydrogen-fuelled bulkers

Halten Bulk has moved to build a pair of hydrogen-fuelled bulkers following NOK142m ($13.8m) funding from government enterprise Enova. Halten Bulk, owned by Brødrene Nordbø, Egil Ulvan, and Strand Shipping, was founded in 2014 and currently operates seven short-sea bulk vessels. The two new vessels have been designed by Norwegian Ship Design, which now has

Maersk orders six additional methanol-fuelled boxships

Maersk has ordered a further six large ocean-going vessels that can sail on green methanol and has said prices for this new form of propulsion are coming down.
