In Canada, Veer announced the signing of a Letter of Intent with Fosen Shipyard to construct two wind-powered and hydrogen-assisted 152 TEU container vessels, with service to start in 2027. This collaboration marks a major advance in Veer’s ambition to launch the world’s first clean container ships capable of crossing oceans without emitting carbon.
Danielle Southcott, CEO of Veer, expressed enthusiasm about partnering with Fosen, a shipyard that aligns with their vision of revolutionizing the shipping industry through zero emissions technology. The vessels will feature innovative DynaRig sails and hydrogen fuel cells, enhancing their speed and range while maintaining absolute zero emissions as defined by the International Maritime Organization.
These ships are also designed for operations in Green Shipping Corridors and Marine Protected Areas, exempt from the European Union Emission Trading System due to their minimal environmental impact. Veer has already secured significant financial backing, including a €50M commitment from Prow Capital, to support the design and construction of these groundbreaking vessels.
