APM Terminals (APMT) has welcomed A.P. Moller-Maersk’s (Maersk) methanol-enabled containership to Los Angeles’ Pier 400.
The terminal, one of eight APMT facilities worldwide participating in an electrification project, aims to deploy cutting-edge technology and electric container handling equipment to achieve the group’s net zero ambition by 2040.
In September, the terminal will receive two new fully electric Auto Straddle Carriers and begin pilot work with its ILWU workforce to retrofit two hybrid Auto Straddle Carriers to become fully electric.
APMT Pier 400 Managing Director, Jon Poelma, said: “As a critical node along the green corridor that is forming between Los Angeles and key cities in China, Pier 400 is one of the most environmentally advanced terminals in the US.
In July, the Port of Los Angeles completed a rail extension project on Pier 400 to enhance cargo movement, cut pollution, and increase traffic safety.
