RIC Energy and Siemens Partner to Advance Green Hydrogen and E-Fuels Projects in Spain

RIC Energy and Siemens have entered into a strategic collaboration aimed at advancing projects in renewable hydrogen, green ammonia, and e-fuels across Spain. The two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that lays the groundwork for technical and financial cooperation in the development of large-scale sustainable energy infrastructure.

At the centre of this collaboration is the Compostilla Green project, a sustainable aviation fuel (e-SAF) initiative based in Cubillos del Sil, León. The project, spearheaded by RIC Energy, was recently recognised as the top-rated proposal under Spain’s Hydrogen Valleys programme by the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE). Siemens’ involvement is expected to provide technological and financial support to accelerate the project’s development.

Multiple entities within the Siemens Group — including Siemens S.A., Siemens Industry Software, Siemens Financial Services, and Siemens Innovation Strategies — are involved in the partnership. The agreement covers a broad scope of activities, from improving operational efficiency and decarbonising industrial processes, to enhancing digital infrastructure and ensuring industrial safety.

The collaboration also extends to the Besaya project in Torrelavega, Cantabria, another flagship sustainable fuel initiative led by RIC Energy. Both projects aim to drive regional reindustrialization and contribute to Spain’s broader energy transition goals.

In addition to technical and financial development, the MoU outlines a joint communication strategy designed to promote the socio-economic benefits of the projects and their contribution to decarbonisation and sustainable growth.

José Luis Moya, CEO of RIC Energy, said the partnership marks a new phase in an already strong relationship between the two companies. “This agreement strengthens the collaboration with Siemens and opens the door to accelerating high-impact hydrogen and e-fuels projects in Spain,” he noted.

Fernando Silva, CEO of Siemens Spain, highlighted the broader significance of the partnership: “This MoU underscores Siemens’ commitment to the energy transition and supports initiatives that position Spain at the forefront of sustainable fuel production.”

The agreement reflects growing momentum in Spain’s hydrogen economy and aligns with the country’s ambitions to become a leader in green fuel technologies as part of the EU’s climate objectives.
