Quadrise has inked a deal to use biofuel from BTG Bioliquids in Quadrise’s fuel blends. The companies signed a joint development agreement that will see them collaborate on the use of BTG’s proprietary pyrolysis technology in Quadrise’s bioMSAR fuel.
BTG’s technology turns agricultural and forestry residues, like saw mill waste, into fast pyrolysis bio-oil (FPBO), a homogeneous energy carrier, which can be used as a direct substitute for fossil fuels or be further upgraded into advanced biofuels.
There are currently three FPBO-producing plants using BTG’s technology in the Netherlands, Finland and Sweden.
The agreement will see the use of the FPBO as a potential cost-effective renewable source of fuel in Quadrise’s bioMSAR fuel. The agreement has a provision for Quadrise to supply MSAR blending technology at BTG Bioliquid’s licensed plants or biorefineries, subject to future agreements.
The two companies also intend to jointly execute a research programme to generate stable bioMSAR emulsions incorporating the FPBO. The parties believe successful lab formulations of FPBO-bioMSAR emulsions generated at the Quadrise research facility can progress to diesel engine tests over the next 12 months.
Subject to agreement, third-party testing for marine use would then follow, accelerating the development of bioMSAR Zero.
