FincoEnergies has announced a strategic shift toward full digitalisation of its marine (bio)fuel delivery processes in the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) region, with the implementation of electronic Bunker Delivery Note (eBDN) technology. The move is powered by the FuelBoss platform developed by Ofiniti, in partnership with logistics provider VT Group.
This marks a significant advancement in marine fuel transparency and operational efficiency within one of the world’s busiest bunkering hubs.
Enhancing Trust and Transparency in Biofuel Bunkering
The adoption of the eBDN system allows for real-time coordination of fuel deliveries, automated documentation, and immediate data sharing among stakeholders — addressing longstanding challenges in the marine fuel supply chain.
“With tightening schedules and growing demand for sustainable fuels, this digital solution helps us scale efficiently while improving transparency and client responsiveness,” said Leon Arets, Trading & Operations Director at FincoEnergies.
FuelBoss streamlines complex logistics through a fully digital workflow, reducing manual inputs and errors while increasing visibility into each stage of the delivery process.
Building on a Strong Digital Innovation Track Record
FincoEnergies, together with its biofuels brand GoodFuels, has consistently led innovation in sustainable shipping. From conducting the world’s first commercial biofuel bunker delivery to deploying blockchain-based documentation and launching compliance tools like FuelEU Pooling, the company has positioned itself at the forefront of marine decarbonisation.
“Our legacy of innovation continues with this step,” added Arets. “Digital trust is essential in the transition to low-carbon shipping.”
Ofiniti Brings Tech Expertise to Maritime Fueling
FuelBoss, the platform enabling this digital transformation, was developed by Ofiniti — a technology spin-off from assurance and risk management firm DNV. Initially rolled out for LNG deliveries, FuelBoss now extends its capabilities to biofuels with this large-scale deployment.
“This partnership with FincoEnergies and VT Group is a pivotal moment,” said Oliver Brix Sparsø, Global Director of Sales at Ofiniti. “It represents the first significant commitment to digital delivery workflows for marine biofuels.”
A Collaborative Step Toward Maritime Decarbonisation
The initiative reflects FincoEnergies’ mission to decarbonise the industry through innovation and collaboration. Working with VT Group, the company is supporting a cleaner and more efficient future for marine logistics.
“FuelBoss integrates seamlessly into our operations,” noted Wouter van Reenen, Business Development Manager at VT Group. “It enhances the experience both for onboard crews and our clients.”
What’s Next for Digital Bunkering
As regulations tighten and demand for biofuels increases, FincoEnergies’ digital-first approach may set a new standard in marine fuel operations. The company’s leadership underscores the role of technology in making low-carbon shipping both scalable and verifiable — and highlights the need for broader adoption across the sector.
