Drydocks World has joined forces with four other leading shipyards across Europe and Asia to establish the Global Green Shipyard Alliance (GGSA), a new coalition focused on promoting clean technologies and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards in the maritime sector.
The alliance brings together Drydocks World (UAE), Astilleros Shipyard Group (Spain), BREDO Dry Docks GmbH (Germany), and IMC Shipyard Services Group (operating across Singapore, China, and Thailand). Together, the founding members represent strategic maritime hubs across the Middle East, Europe, and Asia, with a shared objective of facilitating scalable sustainability initiatives in shipbuilding, repair, and retrofitting.
The GGSA was formed in response to mounting regulatory and environmental pressures on the shipping industry to reduce emissions and transition toward more sustainable operations. By establishing a collaborative platform, the alliance aims to promote technology adoption, streamline ESG compliance, and support innovation in areas such as hybrid propulsion, energy efficiency retrofits, and digital performance optimisation.
“The formation of the Global Green Shipyard Alliance reflects our shared responsibility to accelerate the maritime industry’s decarbonisation journey. At Drydocks World, we are proud to be a founding member of this important initiative and to collaborate with our global counterparts to advance more sustainable, efficient practices across the sector,” said Captain Rado Antolovic, PhD, CEO of Drydocks World.
Imran Inamdar, Chief Operating Officer at Drydocks World, added: “Through the Global Green Shipyard Alliance, we have an opportunity to work alongside our peers to drive measurable improvements across shipbuilding and retrofitting practices. This collaboration enables us to raise performance standards, improve operational outcomes and bring practical solutions to market faster.”
The GGSA complements existing international initiatives supported by DP World, including the Zero Emission Port Alliance (ZEPA) and the First Movers Coalition, both of which are aimed at accelerating the adoption of zero-emission maritime technologies.
