Hydrogen-powered flight innovator H2FLY has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Air Liquide, strengthening their partnership on the development of liquid hydrogen storage and ground infrastructure.
The German-based company has been working with the industrial gas giant as part of its Project HEAVEN campaign to fit its HY4 hydrogen fuel cell-powered aircraft with liquid hydrogen capabilities.
In April this year (2023) the pair have revealed liquid hydrogen filling success as well as the coupling of a liquid hydrogen storage system with the fuel cell system within the HY4 aircraft.
The MoU will strengthen collaboration on the development, testing, certification and commercialisation of liquid hydrogen storage and ground infrastructure support for commercial aircraft applications.
Signed at the Paris Airshow, the MoU comes just days after H2FLY announced its next generation fuel cell system for high-altitude hydrogen-powered flights.
Dubbed the H175 programme, the company plans to develop a fuel cell power unit for commercial aircraft applications which it says could facilitate flights of up to 27,000ft.
It is currently unknown as to whether Air Liquide will take part in the H175 programme. H2 View is awaiting response from H2FLY.
