KHIMOD and Elyse Energy have announced a partnership to produce sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) to decarbonise aviation.
Through the collaborative project AVEBIO, the two companies will demonstrate the production of sustainable e-fuels for air transport based on the yet-to-valorise carbon dioxide (CO2) of a biofuel production unit.
The project’s goal is to valorise biomass deposit while using competitive synthetic carbon to support the e-fuel industry.
AVEBIO will encompass an end-to-end solution from CO2 to e-fuels through the reaction of reverse Water Gas Shift (rWGS) from CO2 and Fischer-Tropsch from CO to e-fuels.
KHIMOD will provide the disruptive heat exchanger-reactors within the CO2 hydrogenation units, the Fisher-Tropsch reactor and the necessary interaction between the rWGS and the Fischer-Tropsch technological bricks.
Elyse Energy will coordinate the project and the launch on an industrial pilot on RYAM site in Tartas, France, to value biogenic CO2 from second generation bioethanol plant.
AVEBIO has been granted support within the fourth Investment Programme for the Future France 2030, through the Call for Projects, which is aimed at developing a French production sector for sustainable aeronautical fuels, known as CARB AERO.
Elyse Energy was established by Falkor and Vol-V in 2021, a subsidiary that is entirely dedicated to green hydrogen.
The companies identified green hydrogen and electro-fuels as crucial to the global energy transition and particularly key to decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors such as industry and heavy-duty mobility.
