Methanol engine secures bulker orders

Japan’s Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. has ordered 3 × MAN B&W 7G50ME-C9.6-LGIM (-Liquid Gas Injection Methanol) main engines in connection with the building of 3 × 81,200 dwt bulk carriers for Danish shipping company, J. ABS, AL Group to study methanol fuel conversion for bulker

ABS and Asiatic Lloyd Maritime LLP, member of the AL Group, have signed a joint development project to study the feasibility of converting the fuel system of an ultramax bulk carrier, from conventional diesel to methanol. J. Lauritzen orders another dual fuel bulker

The vessel will be capable of operating with zero carbon emissions when powered by green methanol and biodiesel. All three vessels will be built by Tsuneishi Shipbuilding.

Berge Bulk, ABS agree to retrofit bulk vessel to methanol propulsion

ABS and Berge Bulk (BB) have signed a joint development project (JDP) to evaluate the feasibility of converting a bulk vessel to methanol fuel propulsion. As disclosed, the agreement which will see BB and ABS explore the possibility of retrofitting the 300-meter-long heavy fuel oil-propelled bulk carrier Berge Mauna Kea to operate on methanol fuel.

Sumitomo Plans Ammonia Launch by 2025 for Bulker and Singapore Bunkers

Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation announced several new initiatives designed to further support the adoption of ammonia for maritime and other industries. The company plans to launch an ammonia-fueled dry bulk vessel within the next four years. They also plan to accelerate development efforts in Singapore through a partnership with Keppel FELS, a subsidiary of Keppel Offshore
