Denmark’s J. Lauritzen has ordered a third methanol dual fuel kamsarmax bulk carrier from Tsuneishi Shipbuilding. J. Lauritzen said that the vessel ordered would be an 81,200 dwt kamsarmax bulk carrier which would be added to its previous order of two vessels.
The vessel will be capable of operating with zero carbon emissions when powered by green methanol and biodiesel. All three vessels will be built by Tsuneishi Shipbuilding.
Like the first two vessels, the third vessel will be fully owned by Lauritzen NexGen Shipping and be operated by commodities giant Cargill for a minimum period of seven years.
The first two vessels were ordered in April this year. Just like for the third vessel, no price tag for the vessels or the delivery dates were revealed.
J. Lauritzen said at the time that the partnership with Cargill was facilitated by the Copenhagen Commercial Platform, which will also be involved in operating and further developing the partnership.
As for Tsuneishi, it is becoming the go-to place for building methanol-powered dry bulk carriers. In January, Cargill teamed up with Mitsui & Co for a pair of kamsarmax vessels at the same shipyard for delivery in the first quarter of 2026.
