CMF publishes bunkering checklists for alcohol-based fuels

Methanol, which can be carbon-neutral when produced from sustainable hydrogen and carbon dioxide (CO2) by direct air capture (DAC), has been used as a fuel alternative in the shipping industry on a small scale since 2015.

Maersk to retrofit existing ship to a dual-fuel methanol engine

Retrofitting of engines to run on methanol is an important lever in our strategy. With this initiative, replacing engine parts and thereby making the engine able to operate on methanol is a rather complex task, but only a part of the larger retrofit operation. For instance, new fuel tanks, fuel preparation room and fuel supply system are also a part of the retrofitting the vessel for green methanol.

DeCarTrans produces synthetic fuel for transport sector

The consortium of research and industry plans to produce a total of 380,000 liters of green fuel (e-fuel) over the course of the next four years.

Algoma orders methanol tankers

Algoma Central Corporation has commissioned Hyundai Mipo Shipyard in South Korea to build two 37,000 dwt ice-class product tankers in a deal worth around $96m. The vessels will deliver in the first quarter of 2025 and go on a long-term charter with Irving Oil under the Canadian flag, servicing the energy company’s refinery in Saint

Cost of emissions compliance favours LNG over methanol, says SEA-LNG study

Using long-term price benchmarks for ammonia, methanol and LNG as a marine fuel, SEA-LNG has calculated the cost of compliance with FuelEU Maritime regulations for a typical 14,000-TEU newbuild container vessel coming into operation in 2025.

Maersk’s maiden voyage to be fueled by OCI Global

The vessel leaves South Korea for its maiden voyage this summer, sailing to Northern Europe via the Suez Canal, bunkering at several major ports along its journey.
