TNB, Siemens Energy work together to advance green hydrogen

Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) and Siemens Energy are set to embark on green hydrogen initiatives after signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in August of this year. Their collaboration focuses on expediting the decarbonization of TNB’s thermal power plants by using green hydrogen generated from renewable energy sources.

TNB will employ electrolysis and renewable energy sources like pumped hydro and solar. The MoU was officially exchanged at the Energy Transition Conference 2023 in August. This partnership aligns with TNB’s Energy Transition goals and its aim to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050.

The collaboration under the National Energy Transition Roadmap includes hydrogen and ammonia co-firing as a flagship project, with TNB leading its implementation alongside Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) as part of the national decarbonization effort.

TNB, in partnership with Siemens Energy, will enhance its capabilities in green hydrogen production and its application for co-firing in thermal power plants.
