Commodity trading giant Trafigura has announced plans to deploy ZeroNorth’s digital optimisation platform across its controlled fleet of more than 350 vessels. The implementation will include voyage optimisation, emissions analytics, and vessel reporting solutions aimed at improving efficiency and reducing carbon emissions.
As part of the collaboration, Trafigura will also acquire an equity stake in ZeroNorth, reinforcing the partnership and its long-term commitment to leveraging digital technology to decarbonise maritime operations.
ZeroNorth’s platform integrates artificial intelligence and real-time operational data—such as vessel performance, weather conditions, and fuel availability—to support continuous optimisation of fleet performance. The system is designed to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, contributing to more sustainable shipping practices.
Andrea Olivi, Global Head of Shipping at Trafigura, stated that the partnership aligns with the company’s broader sustainability goals. “The ZeroNorth platform will help us optimise fleet performance through enhanced monitoring of fuel and emissions while improving data collection and quality,” said Olivi. “It will also strengthen our relationships with vessel owners through more effective communication and information sharing.”
In addition to adopting the platform, Trafigura will become part of ZeroNorth’s group of strategic partners. This role will allow the company to contribute practical insights from its global operations to support product development and influence the direction of ZeroNorth’s future offerings. Søren C. Meyer, CEO of ZeroNorth, welcomed the collaboration, noting its significance for the broader maritime sector. “Partnering with Trafigura is a milestone for ZeroNorth,” Meyer said. “Their operational scale and expertise will help expand the impact of our platform and demonstrate the crucial role digital solutions play in driving the maritime energy transition.”
