Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles (VECV), a joint-venture between Volvo Group and Eicher Motors Limited (EML), will invest in multiple alternate fuel technologies to help curb crude consumption and vehicular emissions in the country.
VECV took the covers off a dual fuel bus at the India Motor Show. It is focusing on introducing sustainable mobility solutions for consumers in the country.
Apart from the dual fuel bus which will run on CNG and LNG, the company also showcased an electric truck, a hydrogen fuel cell truck and an intercity electric bus at the expo. Aggarwal said while the penetration of e-mobility in buses has started gaining momentum, e-trucks are operational only in very ‘small pockets’.
Similarly, a distribution network needs to be established for dispensing hydrogen to make operational vehicles powered by fuel cells. Synergies with the Volvo Group will also be explored to commercially launch alternate fuel powered commercial vehicles in the market here.
