CSSC Beihai to Build Four Dual-Fuel 210,000 DWT Bulk Carriers for COSCO

China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) Beihai Shipbuilding has signed a contract to construct four 210,000 DWT bulk carriers. The agreement was signed in collaboration with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC) and a wholly-owned subsidiary of COSCO SHIPPING Development.

The newbuilds represent a technically upgraded design featuring a new-generation energy-efficient hull. According to the shipyard, the vessels will consume approximately 6% less fuel than previous models and comply with EEDI Phase 3 standards. The ships will also feature a dual-fuel configuration capable of running on methanol and ammonia, allowing for future fuel flexibility.

Upon delivery, the vessels will be leased to COSCO Shipping Bulk for long-term operations. This order marks a renewed partnership between COSCO SHIPPING Development, COSCO Shipping Bulk, CSTC, and Beihai Shipbuilding, following their earlier collaboration in 2019.

In addition to advancing green and low-carbon fleet development, the project also supports the broader use of RMB in shipbuilding and leasing transactions, aligned with national efforts to internationalize the currency and strengthen domestic equipment capabilities.
