The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) and CIMC ENRIC Holdings Limited have entered into a strategic partnership to jointly advance green methanol and hydrogen energy development in Hong Kong.
The agreement outlines cooperation in technical development, engineering services, and compliance related to industry standards and carbon trading for green methanol. Towngas, noted as the first Chinese company to receive both ISCC EU and ISCC PLUS certifications for large-scale green methanol production, will integrate its existing supply chain with CIMC ENRIC’s capabilities in clean energy and maritime industries to promote broader adoption of the fuel.
In a separate agreement, the two companies also committed to collaborating on hydrogen energy development. This includes joint work on hydrogen extraction, purification, storage, and utilisation technologies. Towngas currently supplies gas in Hong Kong through a network where hydrogen accounts for nearly 50% of the mix, delivered via over 3,700 km of underground pipelines.
The partnership aims to enhance hydrogen applications in sectors such as transportation, EV charging infrastructure, and industrial use.
