Asahi Tanker joins Maritime Battery Forum

Japanese shipping company Asahi Tanker has become the latest member of the Maritime Battery Forum (MBF), an international network focused on maritime battery solutions.
Established in 1951, Asahi Tanker specializes in the transportation of petroleum and chemical products. In recent years, the company has pursued initiatives aimed at reducing emissions, including the development of pure battery and hybrid electric tankers.
In 2022, the company introduced Asahi, described as the world’s first fully electric, zero-emission tanker. The vessel is powered by a large lithium-ion battery supplied by Corvus Energy and operates without producing CO2, NOx, SOx or particulate emissions.
MBF currently counts more than 90 members across three continents. The forum serves as a platform for sharing knowledge, reviewing technologies, and supporting solutions that contribute to a zero-emission maritime sector.
