Italian maritime group Fratelli Cosulich has launched its latest methanol-powered IMO II chemical and bunker tanker, Maya Cosulich, at the Taizhou Maple Leaf Shipyard in China. The launch took place on October 9, 2025, marking another milestone in the company’s efforts to expand its alternative fuel bunkering capabilities.
Vessel Specifications and Capabilities
The Maya Cosulich is a 7,990 dwt vessel with a total capacity exceeding 8,000 cubic meters. It is designed to carry both green methanol and biofuels, aligning with the shipping industry’s transition toward cleaner energy solutions.
Designed by SeaTech Solutions, the tanker features a diesel-electric propulsion system, onboard battery storage, and two mass flow meters (MFMs) to ensure accuracy and efficiency in fuel delivery operations.
The vessel is fully compliant with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore’s (MPA) methanol bunkering standards, positioning it among the first methanol dual-fuel bunker tankers that will operate in the Port of Singapore—one of the world’s largest bunkering hubs.
Entry into the Singapore Market
Maya Cosulich is expected to arrive in Singapore by the end of 2025, where it will begin operations under a time charter with TFG Marine, the global marine fuel supply joint venture between Trafigura, Frontline, and Golden Ocean.
The vessel is intended to support growing demand for low-carbon marine fuels and to strengthen the methanol bunkering infrastructure in the region.
Industry Perspectives
Kenneth Dam, Head of Bunkering at TFG Marine, said the addition of Maya Cosulich will enhance the company’s bunkering operations in Singapore:
“The delivery of Maya Cosulich is excellent news for TFG Marine and for the Singapore bunkering market. Its addition to our fleet strengthens our ability to offer customers a reliable and transparent supply of marine fuels, while supporting the industry’s transition towards low-carbon alternatives.”
Guido Cardullo, Head of Marine Energy at Fratelli Cosulich, noted that the project reflects the company’s approach to innovation in sustainable fuel delivery:
“Maya Cosulich represents our commitment to innovation and collaboration in the energy transition. Together with TFG Marine and our partners, we are proving that sustainable solutions can go hand-in-hand with operational excellence.”
Supporting Singapore’s Green Bunkering Ambitions
The launch of Maya Cosulich comes amid Singapore’s broader efforts to develop methanol and ammonia bunkering infrastructure, as part of its Maritime Decarbonisation Blueprint 2050.
With methanol emerging as a leading transitional marine fuel, the deployment of vessels like Maya Cosulich is expected to play a key role in supporting the global shift toward low-emission shipping operations and enhancing alternative fuel supply readiness in Asia’s major ports.
