In a landmark development for India’s clean energy ambitions, AM Green is advancing the world’s largest green ammonia facility at Kakinada, with the first major equipment erection ceremony scheduled for January 17, 2026. The $10 billion project repurposed an existing ammonia-urea complex into a 1.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) production hub, backed by 7.5 GW of solar and wind power, 1,950 MW electrolysers, and 2 GW round-the-clock renewables.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan presided over the foundation stone laying ceremony on Saturday for one of India’s most ambitious green hydrogen-powered green ammonia facilities. This landmark project at Kakinada port positions the state as a frontrunner in sustainable energy production, leveraging renewable sources to produce clean ammonia for fertilizers, shipping fuel, and industrial applications. The initiative aligns with national clean energy goals, promising significant investments, job creation, and export opportunities through the port’s strategic maritime location.
Phased rollout targets 0.5 MTPA by 2027, 1.0 MTPA by 2028, and full capacity by 2030, positioning India for its inaugural green ammonia exports to markets like Germany, Japan, and Singapore. Long-term supply deals, including with Germany’s Uniper, are already secured, while discussions continue with Asian buyers.
The initiative aligns with Andhra Pradesh’s Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024 and the national Green Hydrogen Mission, aiming for 5 MTPA green hydrogen by 2030 to cut imports and fuel zero-carbon sectors like shipping, power, and fertilizers. It promises up to 8,000 construction jobs, plus ongoing roles in renewables, logistics, and port operations, boosting Kakinada’s maritime hub status.
