China Launches International Green Shipping Corridor Alliance With 45 Founding Members

A new international coalition focused on developing green shipping corridors has been launched in Beijing, bringing together 45 founding members from 12 countries across the maritime, energy and research sectors.

The International Green Shipping Corridor Alliance (IGSCA) was formally launched during the 2026 Global Sustainable Transport Forum in Beijing, according to CMA CGM (China) Shipping Co Ltd. Its members span several parts of the green shipping value chain, including fuel production, vessel operations, port infrastructure and engineering services.

The Alliance held its first General Assembly alongside the forum, with the meeting hosted by China’s Ministry of Transport.

Alliance Brings Together Shipping and Energy Sectors

IGSCA was jointly initiated by the Global Sustainable Transport Innovation and Knowledge Center (GSTIKC), COSCO Shipping Group, CMA CGM, China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC), Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) and other industry partners.

The initiative is structured to bring organisations from both the upstream and downstream segments of the maritime fuel and shipping ecosystem into a common platform.

GSTIKC was established under the auspices of the United Nations as a platform for cooperation and knowledge-sharing on sustainable transport among governments, industry and international organisations.

CMA CGM Joins as Founding Member

CMA CGM is among the founding members of the Alliance. Amélie Humphreys, General Manager of CMA CGM China, represented the company at the Beijing event and delivered a keynote speech.

Humphreys reaffirmed CMA CGM’s support for international cooperation on maritime decarbonisation and said the company would continue working with partners across the maritime value chain to develop green shipping solutions.

She said the launch of the Alliance comes at a pivotal moment for the industry, adding that the scale of the challenge requires collaboration across the entire maritime ecosystem.

Focus on Green Shipping Corridors

Green shipping corridors are designated maritime routes where ports, vessel operators, fuel suppliers and other stakeholders coordinate technical, commercial and regulatory measures to enable zero- or near-zero-emission shipping.

Projects announced in recent years have generally focused on coordinating alternative-fuel supply, port infrastructure, vessel deployment and supporting regulations along specific trade routes.

IGSCA seeks to provide a broader platform for cooperation across these areas by bringing shipping companies, ports, energy firms and engineering organisations together within a single international framework.

Next Steps for the Alliance

The Alliance’s future work is expected to include cooperation on specific green shipping corridor projects, alternative-fuel supply arrangements and infrastructure development among participating organisations.

However, the founding members have not yet disclosed specific corridor routes, fuel commitments or project timelines.

The participation of major Chinese maritime and energy organisations alongside international shipping companies such as CMA CGM gives the Alliance a broad industry base as it begins developing its programme for green shipping corridor cooperation.
