MSC Cruises’s fleet will include LNG-fuelled newbuild MSC World Europa cuisse vessel. The vessel will be greenest and most efficient in MSC’s fleet that will enter into operation when it is delivered in October 2022. The company has informed about the ship’s environmental credentials recently.
The vessel will also be the largest LNG-powered cruise ship in the world when it enters into operation. It will come fitted with features like solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), a catalytic reduction system, and improved shore-to-ship power capability.
It will be first contemporary cruise vessel to feature brand new SOFC technology powered by LNG developed in collaboration by MSC Cruises, French shipyard Chantiers de l’Atlantique, and California-based Bloom Energy.
The 150-kilowatt SOFC demonstrator of the vessel will help in producing auxiliary power to deliver efficiency gains and significant CO2 emissions reductions.
