e1 Marine has contracted PowerCell Sweden AB to offer PowerCellution Marine System 200 fuel cells. The fuel cells will power the world’s first methanol-fuelled towboat – M/V Hydrogen One.
The agreement also includes cooperation on delivering related services, including installation, class approval and commissioning support.
Within the Hydrogen One project, fuel cells running on hydrogen produced by onboard reforming of methanol will provide continuous power to the towboat over extended periods.
The system will comprise of several PowerCellution Marine System 200 fuel cells with a total effect of multiple megawatts.
Hydrogen One was developed by Maritime Partners LLC, using e1 Marine’s methanol-to-hydrogen generator technology.
