Norwegian Hydrogen, Provaris developing green h2 plant

One of the largest production facilities for green hydrogen in the Nordic region, Norwegian Hydrogen and Provaris Energy are betting high on the Ørskog facility located in Ålesund municipality in Norway.

The facility will have a capacity of 270 MW when it is fully developed, with a production capacity of 40,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually.

Norwegian Hydrogen claims that a capacity of 20 MW has been granted, and an application for a further 250 MW capacity has already been submitted and is being processed by the local regulators.

At the local level, the green hydrogen produced will be of use in the maritime industry, heavy vehicle transportation and industrial processes, according to the company.

Provaris Energy, the Australian company that has developed a solution for storing and transporting compressed hydrogen by ship, is collaborating for this project actively.

Norway has ambitious targets for the production of hydrogen, and wants to become a net-zero emissions country by 2050. Green hydrogen is highlighted as one of the most important factors that must be in place to achieve its net-zero targets.

Norwegian Hydrogen claims to start the production of green hydrogen in both Norway and Denmark later this year. The company’s recently launched subsidiary Vireon will be rolling out a network of hydrogen filling stations throughout the Nordic region.
