Abu Dhabi-based AD Ports Group has signed a Head of Terms Agreement with international tank storage specialist Advario, setting the stage for a potential joint venture focused on developing and operating clean energy and liquid bulk storage infrastructure in the UAE and beyond.
The proposed partnership, in which AD Ports Group would hold a 51% stake and Advario the remaining 49%, aims to leverage the strengths and market access of both companies to support the energy transition and expand bulk chemical storage capabilities. Advario’s UAE partner, Star Energy, would also support the initiative.
Should the joint venture be formalized, Advario would oversee the development of liquid bulk storage tanks at Khalifa Port, alongside the construction of pipeline infrastructure to serve clients within KEZAD, the region’s largest integrated industrial zone.
The collaboration is designed to bolster AD Ports Group’s existing liquid bulk services and act as a platform for future investments in clean energy infrastructure, including storage and handling solutions for hydrogen carriers such as ammonia, methanol, and other emerging alternative fuels.
Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, Managing Director and Group CEO of AD Ports Group, highlighted the strategic potential of the partnership:
“We are keen to explore this joint venture as it aligns with our commitment to sustainable development and supports the UAE’s broader vision of becoming a global hub for multi-fuel bunkering and clean energy solutions.”
Bas Verkooijen, CEO of Advario, added:
“This marks an important milestone in our efforts to contribute to the region’s clean energy transition. Partnering with AD Ports Group aligns with our vision to deliver advanced infrastructure for the energy systems of the future.”
Beyond the UAE, the potential joint venture would assess expansion opportunities across EMEA and other international markets. In addition to storage, the scope may include supporting infrastructure such as pipelines, jetties, and integrated logistics solutions. The initiative aligns with AD Ports Group’s strategic goal to reinforce Abu Dhabi’s leadership in global energy logistics and sustainable industrial growth.
