AM Green Group has committed INR 540 billion (USD 6 billion) to large-scale green industrial projects in Andhra Pradesh, signing multiple memoranda of understanding with the state government.
Green Aluminium Complex Planned in Kakinada
The majority of the investment—about INR 440 billion (USD 4.96 billion)—is earmarked for a one-million-tonne-per-annum green aluminium complex at Kakinada. The project will be developed in two phases of 0.5 MTPA each.
According to AM Green, the facility will be powered by 2 GW of round-the-clock renewable energy. The company says this configuration would make it the first operation of its scale globally to run fully on continuous renewable power, enabling an emissions reduction of 80% or more. State authorities expect the complex to attract downstream and ancillary units focused on green industrial and consumer aluminium products.
2G Biorefineries to Supply Low-Carbon Aviation Fuels
The remaining INR 100 billion (USD 1.28 billion) will support a series of second-generation biorefineries in the Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Anakapalli districts. These facilities will produce 2G ethanol and green hydrocarbons and supply feedstock for a 180 KTPA sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) plant. AM Green estimates the resulting SAF will be over 75% less carbon-intensive than conventional jet fuel.
Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan said Andhra Pradesh has been involved in renewable energy developments since the early 2000s and noted that the upcoming green aluminium project would strengthen its position in emerging industrial value chains.
Part of a Broader Decarbonisation Portfolio
AM Green said the initiatives align with its wider decarbonisation programme, which includes pumped hydro storage assets in Kurnool and the development of a 100 GWh Intelligent Energy Cloud Platform. The company is also advancing a one-million-tonne-per-annum RFNBO-compliant green ammonia complex in Kakinada.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said the biorefinery projects would create an integrated pathway from agricultural feedstock to aviation-grade green fuels, placing North Andhra on the map for “global-to-flight” solutions.
