- Total Enova support for Amon Bulk programme now exceeds NOK 552 million
Overview
Amon Maritime has secured investment grants totalling NOK 298 million from Enova to support the construction of three new ammonia-fuelled bulk carriers. The funding builds on earlier Enova awards for two vessels and expands Amon Bulk’s ammonia-powered fleet programme to five ships in total.
The three additional vessels are planned within the Kamsarmax segment, each with a deadweight capacity of approximately 80,000–85,000 tonnes.
Vessel design and market focus
According to Amon Maritime, the vessels are designed to combine high energy efficiency with the use of carbon-free fuel. The ships are intended to serve European steel and industrial cargo markets, where demand for low-carbon transport solutions is increasing.
The designs are aligned with regulatory requirements under the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) and the FuelEU Maritime regulation, with an operational profile intended to support compliance under tightening emissions frameworks.
Company perspective
“This grant provides the foundation to move forward with three additional Kamsarmax vessels. It marks a significant milestone for Amon Bulk and for the shipping industry’s green transition,” said André Risholm, CEO of Amon Maritime.
Programme scale and timeline
With the latest funding award, Amon Bulk has now secured more than NOK 552 million in Enova support for the construction of five ammonia-fuelled bulk carriers. The first two vessels were announced earlier in the year, with the remaining three now added to the programme.
All five ships are scheduled for delivery between 2029 and 2030 and are intended to form part of a new generation of zero-emission bulk carriers for deep-sea shipping.
