Azane Fuel Solutions, a Norwegian company founded in 2021, is accelerating efforts to establish a full-scale ammonia fuel value chain for the maritime sector. With a focus on clean energy and zero-emission shipping, the company is developing both the technology and infrastructure needed to enable ammonia bunkering at ports.
To support its growing operations, Azane is structured into two distinct entities:
- Azane Fuel Solutions, which delivers turnkey ammonia fuel handling and bunkering systems.
- Azane Infrastructure, responsible for building, owning, and operating the physical infrastructure to supply ammonia as maritime fuel.
The company is currently advancing multiple bunkering infrastructure projects in Norway, supported by Enova, local governments, port operators, ammonia producers, and other stakeholders. These projects include small-scale bunkering terminals and the use of both trucks and vessels to distribute ammonia fuel.
Azane is working in close collaboration with its owners—Yara Growth Ventures, Navigator Gas, ECOnnect Energy, and Amon Maritime—to support the fueling of the first generation of ammonia-powered vessels. The company aims to ensure safe, cost-efficient, and scalable fuel supply as the maritime industry moves toward decarbonization.
With regulatory pressure increasing and demand for low-emission alternatives rising, Azane’s developments mark a significant milestone in enabling the transition to ammonia as a viable maritime fuel. The company’s early investments and cross-industry partnerships position it as a key player in the emerging clean fuel ecosystem.
