BASF and Yara International ASA have agreed to discontinue their joint project aimed at developing a low-carbon ammonia production facility with carbon capture and storage on the U.S. Gulf Coast. The companies said the decision reflects a focus on initiatives with the greatest potential to meet their respective value creation strategies.
Yara confirmed it will continue to advance its ammonia strategy, including assessing equity investment opportunities in U.S. projects to shape an optimal portfolio.
BASF and Yara remain collaboration partners and continue to operate a large-scale ammonia plant at BASF’s Freeport site in Texas. BASF also produces ammonia in Ludwigshafen, Germany, and Antwerp, Belgium, while Yara operates a global ammonia production network across Europe, the Americas, and Asia.
