Cochin Shipyard wins up to ₹250 crore green tug order from Polestar Maritime

Cochin Shipyard Ltd. has secured a significant contract from Polestar Maritime Ltd. for the construction of two environmentally friendly harbour tugs, reinforcing its growing presence in green shipbuilding. The order, valued in the range of ₹100 crore to ₹250 crore and categorised by the company as a “notable” contract, has been placed under the Government of India’s Green Tug Transition Programme led by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.

The project involves building two Green Tugs with a bollard pull capacity of 60 tonnes each, designed to support cleaner and more energy-efficient port operations. These vessels will incorporate advanced green technologies aimed at reducing emissions and improving sustainability in harbour services.

According to Cochin Shipyard, the first tug is scheduled for delivery in August 2027, followed by the second in September 2027. The order highlights increasing momentum for eco-friendly maritime assets in India and underscores Cochin Shipyard’s role in supporting the country’s transition towards greener port and shipping infrastructure.
