Covestro and HGK Shipping have renewed their long-term collaboration with an agreement extending their existing logistics partnership until 2040. As part of this renewed commitment, the companies plan to retrofit the “Amadeus Titanium,” a liquid coaster operated by Amadeus Schiffahrts- und Speditions GmbH, with wind-assist technology to enhance energy efficiency and reduce emissions.
The vessel will be equipped with VentoFoils, wing-like devices developed by Dutch manufacturer Econowind. These sails use active flow control and are designed to automatically align with wind conditions, providing auxiliary propulsion that can reduce fuel consumption by approximately ten percent and lower carbon dioxide emissions accordingly.
The retrofitting is scheduled to begin during a planned shipyard visit in September 2025, with full installation expected by the end of the year. Technical oversight for the project will be provided by De Bock Maritiem B.V., the ship’s Technical Manager.
Wolfgang Nowak, Managing Director of Amadeus Schiffahrts- und Speditions GmbH, described the project as an example of collaborative progress in maritime sustainability. “Retrofitting the ‘Amadeus Titanium’ with VentoFoils highlights our shared commitment to improving energy efficiency and reducing resource use in short-sea shipping,” he said.
The “Amadeus Titanium,” originally a dry cargo vessel and later converted into a chemical tanker, has been operating exclusively for Covestro in European short-sea traffic since October 2020. Under the logistics agreement, Amadeus Schiffahrt manages the ship’s operations as a dedicated service provider.
Stefan Kashelikar, Head of Logistics at Covestro Deutschland AG, noted that the partnership extension underlines both companies’ commitment to future-ready logistics. “This new agreement strengthens our strategic cooperation and supports our shared goal of building a safe, sustainable and efficient supply chain,” he said. “HGK Shipping remains a valued partner that aligns with our vision of innovative, climate-conscious transport solutions.”
