Fossil fuel projects get nod from UK govt post COP26 summit

The UK government has given nod to several fossil fuels projects after COP26 summit held at Glasgow in 2021. According to the analysis it is learned that more than 50 schemes are thought to be in the pipeline between now and 2025. These approvals are part of a worldwide expansion of fossil fuels in spite of the climate crisis.

It is reported that the industry is planning 195 oil and gas projects which would each emit at least a billion tonnes of CO2 over their lifetimes.

Abigail oil and gas field is one such project which received approval from the UK government in January this year. The government has also granted coal license extension approval in south Wales and to expand oil production at West Newton, and east Yorkshire recently.

It is reported that large number of new North Sea oil and gas developments may get the consent from the UK government. climate campaigners Uplift has revealed that UK government may approve 46 such projects by 2025.
