Freightliner, a subsidiary of Genesee & Wyoming, and Zero Petroleum have jointly embarked on developing carbon-neutral diesel fuel for locomotives.

For Freightliner, this is a significant step in reducing its environmental footprint. While the company already utilizes electric traction for some of its transportation, it also operates a fleet of locomotives.
There are plans for a substantial reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2033, aiming for a 55% decrease, with the use of up to 26 million liters of alternative fuel.
Zero Petroleum, in turn, commits to building a plant within two years capable of meeting the demand for carbon-neutral fuel on such a scale.
This initiative will not only benefit Freightliner but also other companies seeking to reduce their carbon footprint.
Such collaboration is crucial not only from an ecological perspective but also in terms of economics and innovation.
Implementing carbon-neutral fuel in rail transport will help reduce dependence on fossil resources, mitigate environmental risks, and stimulate the development of alternative technologies in the energy sector.
