The Government of Goa has released a draft policy aimed at advancing bioenergy production and reducing dependence on fossil fuels across the state. The proposal outlines measures to support the development of biogas, biomass power and liquid biofuels.
The policy includes provisions for financial assistance, simplified approval procedures and support with land acquisition. It seeks to attract investments from both public and private sectors to expand the state’s renewable energy capacity.
According to a senior official from the Energy Department, the initiative is intended to integrate bioenergy into Goa’s energy portfolio, lower carbon emissions and support job creation within the sector.
The draft also proposes fast-tracking clearances and easing regulatory processes to improve the operating environment for bioenergy developers.
The move aligns with national objectives under the Government of India’s National Bio-Energy Mission, which aims to expand the contribution of bio-based energy sources to the country’s overall energy consumption.
The state government has called for public feedback on the draft before it is finalized and implemented.
