HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co Ltd (HHI) has completed and delivered the liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier Al Zuwair at its Ulsan Shipyard on August 18. The vessel will enter service under a time-charter agreement with QatarEnergy, one of the world’s leading LNG producers.
Al Zuwair is the third in a series of 12 LNG carriers ordered by QatarEnergy through a joint venture involving NYK, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd, MISC Berhad, and China LNG Shipping Holdings Ltd. This marks the first delivery from HHI under the program and the first vessel in which the NYK Group will provide ship management services on behalf of the consortium.
The carrier is equipped with two X-DF 2.1 iCER dual-fuel engines capable of operating on both fuel oil and boil-off gas. It also features an air lubrication system and a reliquefaction device designed to efficiently utilize surplus boil-off gas. These technologies aim to improve fuel efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions during operations.
