Japan’s Imabari Shipbuilding has delivered a 13,932 TEU containership to Singapore-based Ocean Network Express (ONE).
The vessel, named One Strength, was handed over on September 19 at Imabari’s Marugame headquarters. With a gross tonnage of 140,233, the ship measures 335.94 meters in length, 51 meters in breadth, and 30.1 meters in depth.
Classed by Lloyd’s Register (LR), One Strength has been designed with the option of future conversion to methanol or ammonia fuel, for which it has secured approval in principle. The vessel is also prepared for the possible integration of carbon capture technology at a later stage.
To meet international sulfur oxide (SOx) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) requirements, the containership is fitted with a hybrid exhaust gas cleaning system (EGCS) and an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) solution. Additional environmental features include a ballast water treatment system and a hazardous material inventory aligned with the Hong Kong Convention.
Energy-saving measures on board include a twisted rudder and specialized hull coating to reduce seawater friction, contributing to improved fuel efficiency, according to Imabari Shipbuilding.
One Strength follows the delivery of sister vessel One Sincerity last month and One Sapphire earlier this year. Another unit, One Singapore, also recently joined the company’s fleet. All four newbuilds were constructed by Imabari Shipbuilding.
