The shift toward cleaner fleets gained momentum this week as Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) signed a memorandum of understanding with Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) to jointly develop zero-emission buses.
The partnership links MFTBC’s bus subsidiary, Mitsubishi Fuso Bus Manufacturing (MFBM), with Foxconn’s vehicle division, Foxtron Vehicle Technologies. The companies will collaborate on development, production, supply chain management and sales, beginning with Foxtron’s full-size MODEL T and mid-size MODEL U.
Foxtron’s MODEL T is already in service across Taiwan’s major cities, where it has earned recognition for performance and safety in daily operations. The MODEL U, a versatile mid-size bus, is designed to offer flexible mobility solutions, combining clean design with advanced passenger-oriented features.
For Fuso, the agreement is part of a broader strategy to expand its global bus operations. MFBM will serve as the base for new initiatives, including opportunities to introduce both internal combustion and zero-emission buses into selected markets.
The memorandum also outlines plans to explore new business models that support the Fuso brand in an evolving transport sector. The companies aim to combine Japan’s established manufacturing strengths with Foxconn’s expertise in smart technologies to deliver a wider range of sustainable mobility solutions.
MFTBC already has experience in electrification through the eCanter, Japan’s first mass-produced electric light-duty truck. Extending this expertise to buses is seen as a step toward meeting rising global demand for zero-emission public transport.
