Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) marked a milestone with the naming ceremony of Energia Viking, its first LNG dual-fuel very large crude carrier (VLCC) under charter to Equinor. The event took place at the Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (DACKS) shipyard in China.
The vessel is the first in a series of three LNG-fueled VLCCs being built for Equinor. Delivery of the Energia Viking is expected by the end of 2025. The ship measures around 339.5 meters in length and 60 meters in width.
The vessel is fitted with an LNG fuel tank capable of storing more than 10,000 cubic meters, which MOL says supports long-range voyages and flexible operational planning.
MOL aims to operate 90 vessels powered by LNG or methanol by 2030. Approximately 40 LNG-fueled vessels are currently under development, including the Energia Viking, with six VLCCs scheduled for phased delivery starting in 2025.
