The Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD) and MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) announce their signing of a five-year Impact Partnership agreement.
MSC becomes the fifth impact partner of Singapore-based GCMD and will provide a cash contribution towards the centre’s pooled resources for pilots and trials. MSC will also provide in kind contributions to projects including access to vessels, operational equipment, and other assets.
Decarbonising shipping is the biggest challenge facing the maritime sector and one which can only be achieved by step changes in commitment, concrete action and investment by shipping companies, their customers, ports, energy suppliers and public sector actors. By joining forces with GCMD, MSC is strengthening its commitment towards a collaborative approach to decarbonisation. As an Impact Partner, MSC will provide cash contribution towards GCMD’s pooled resources for pilots and trials. MSC will also make in-kind contributions through its participation in projects, including access to vessels, operational equipment, and other assets, as well as vessel operating data and evaluation reports so their learnings can help inform GCMD’s future trials.
MSC is the world’s largest shipping line with a fleet of 730 vessels and the industry’s biggest newbuilding orderbook of energy-efficient containerships.
MSC is the third container to partner with GCMD following Ocean Network Express (ONE), which was one of six industry founding partners, and strategic partner Hapag-Lloyd.
Other shipowners that are GCMD partners are BW Group and Eastern Pacific Shipping, both founding partners, and impact partner Olympic Shipping and Management.
