HH2E AG has agreed to buy 120MW of hydrogen capacity from Norway’s Nel ASA, in the form of two 60 MW electrolyser plants to be built in Germany, a contract which is reported to be worth over €30mln (£26.5mln).
The German green energy company said the two plants using Nel electrolysers and experience will be “among the largest green hydrogen production plants in Europe announced to date”, with both facilities also able to be significantly expanded in future.
The hydrogen will be used for industrial applications, transportation and heat, HH2E said, as it aims to churn out 4 GW of the fuel by 2030.
Last autumn Nel won its first hydrogen project in the US, a US$59mln contract with Woodside, to produce liquid hydrogen for fuel cell-powered commercial and heavy transport vehicles, and in December signed an agreement with an undisclosed US energy company for the delivery of 16 hydrogen fueling stations to be deployed in the US.
