Singapore and South Korea Establish Green and Digital Shipping Corridor

Singapore, 2 November 2025 — The Ministry of Transport of Singapore and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea (ROK) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the Singapore–ROK Green and Digital Shipping Corridor (GDSC), aimed at advancing maritime decarbonisation and digital transformation.

The MoU was signed by Singapore’s Acting Minister for Transport, Mr Jeffrey Siow, and ROK’s Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, Mr Chun Jae Soo. The document exchange took place between Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Transport Mr Murali Pillai and Mr Chun, in the presence of Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and President Lee Jae Myung.

Supporting the Transition to Low-Carbon Shipping

Under the MoU, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) will collaborate on initiatives that support the maritime sector’s transition to zero or near-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emission fuels.

Key areas of cooperation include:

  • Developing green bunkering infrastructure and aligning technical standards for cleaner fuels.
  • Exchanging technical knowledge and conducting joint trials with industry and research partners.
  • Providing training programmes to build capacity among maritime professionals.
  • Enhancing digitalisation efforts to improve data sharing and operational efficiency.

Strengthening Regional Collaboration in Clean Maritime Technologies

The initiative reinforces both nations’ commitment to sustainable shipping and the decarbonisation goals of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). It also builds on Singapore’s and South Korea’s strategic roles as major maritime hubs in Asia.

“This partnership underscores our shared commitment to building a sustainable and future-ready maritime sector,” said Mr Jeffrey Siow, Acting Minister for Transport. “By advancing clean energy, digital innovation, and skills development, we not only address national priorities but also contribute to global efforts for green shipping and strengthen supply chain resilience.”

Mr Chun Jae Soo, Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, added, “The Republic of Korea and Singapore are key maritime partners in Asia, and together we will lead efforts to achieve international shipping decarbonisation. Through this cooperation, both countries will promote the adoption of green fuels and digital solutions, contributing to the sustainable growth of the global maritime sector.”

Global Impact on Maritime Sustainability

The Green and Digital Shipping Corridor between Singapore and the Republic of Korea is expected to serve as a model for regional and international collaboration in green shipping, fuel transition, and port digitalisation. The partnership aligns with global efforts to reduce emissions from the shipping industry and enhance supply chain sustainability.
